Membership Requirements
Requirements set by the National Office
To become a regular member of Tri Beta, you must meet the following requirements:
- An undergraduate with a “majors” in biological science at an institution where a chapter of Beta Beta Beta is located
- Have completed at least one term of the second year of a four year curriculum or its equivalent
- Have completed at least three term courses in biological science, of which at least one is not an introductory course, with an average grade of B or its equivalent in those biology courses
- Be in good academic standing
Membership Participation Requirements
Additional requirements through St. Petersburg College
- Be in good academic and disciplinary standing as defined by the college (BOT Rules 4.461 (Academic Honesty), 4.33 (Student Code of Conduct), and 4.46 (Good Academic Standing).
- Participate in one volunteer event per semester.
- Participate in one SGA sanctioned “Quad Event” per semester.
- Attend three Chapter meetings, activities, or events per semester.
- Completing four hours of tutoring per semester,
- Conducting biological science research to include either current class research projects or undergraduate research,
- Presenting research at a Symposium event (at least 1 per year),
- Attending Induction Ceremonies (only advisor-excused absences accepted)
*Note: If these requirements are not met in any given semester, then the member will go on inactive status until a semester of completed requirements is fulfilled. Two consecutive inactive terms will be consideration for removal from the society.
